I ran a race last week. One of these races - Battle @ Big Springs, to be precise. This is the second year in a row that I'm doing all four of these races, and I couldn't be more thrilled. They're great races and they have a great feel to them. Later in the day, as I was getting ready to go to the temple with my beautiful wife, I was thinking about the race directors, Tyson and Amber Andrews, and the Harper family, who are Amber's family.
While I don't actually know any of the Harpers personally, I've been around them a fair bit at these races and am very impressed with them (apparently others are as well). They have taken something that is important and fun and worthwhile to them - running - and shared it with others in a whole bunch of different ways. I think it's safe to say I have something of a "fam-crush" on this family. They are really awesome.
I found myself thinking, "Now that is really impressive. That's not just having a great family, or having a great family with a shared passion, that's taking it to another level and actually sharing that passion with others!" I began to wonder about how I could do something like that, or how we as a family could do something like that. On the way to the temple, I was talking to Amber about this, and I realized some things: one, there's something that our family has that is absolutely precious and important to us and that we're constantly being encouraged to share with others - the gospel of Jesus Christ! Two, besides the gospel I can think of any number of other things that I'd like to share with others. And three, I've been prompted many times over the past couple years to try and blog more.
All of these realizations kindof came together into one big aha moment. I've put off writing much on this blog because I don't want to just write a running blog or a gospel-sharing blog or a hot-topic blog or whatever. I was really unsure what to write about, but then it hit me! I can write about all the great stuff I want to share with others! As a part of that, I'll be renaming the blog. It'll either be 'Everything is Awesome: Redounding to the Glory of the Lord' or have the title and subtitle swapped - 'Redounding to the Glory of the Lord: Everything is Awesome'. Either way, I plan on writing about all of the things in life that I find awesome (of which there are a lot, 'cos I'm pretty good at liking stuff). That means that I might find myself writing about any of the following:
-The gospel
-Family
-My family
-My wife
-My kids
-Running
-Races
-Ultrarunning (even though I don't do it yet...)
-Running gear
-My own running escapades
-Food
-Mountains
-Outdoors in general
-Clothes
-People
-Places
-Ideas
-etc...
I may end up writing some more serious things about some of what's going on in our world, since I try to pay attention and gather opinions and formulate my own, but generally speaking I just want to chronicle all of the awesome in this awesome world. Along the way I might overuse the word awesome to an awesome extent. Awesome.
